Breastfeeding.... I'm one of the ones that didn't...

As it's breastfeeding week I thought I would share my views on the subject.

I have four children, 2 girls & twin boys & I did not breastfeed any of them.  I didn't want to try & to be honest I never felt guilty about not doing it.  I remember being pregnant with Lauren my eldest & my friend telling me that the nurse made her cousin cry because she didn't want to breastfeed & how guilty they made her feel.  I was so worried that they would be like this with me but I just stood my ground.  You might want to wonder why?  I wanted to have night feeds shared so I could get some sleep, that may be selfish but thats my honest answer.  Also the bond my husband has with the children I think is better because of this.

My girls had really bad reflux, Georgia had it far worse, sometimes going through 5-6 bibs every feed.  Maybe the formula wasn't helping but the doctor told me not to change it as she wasn't losing weight.  I think the reflux was down to the medicine I used when I had heartburn during pregnancy, as I used it more when pregnant with Georgia.  When I got pregnant with the twins, I was worried at how I would cope if they both had reflux has bad as Georgia so I just suffered with heartburn, I didn't take any medicines at all for it & thankfully neither were sicky babies.  The thing is I can't turn back the clock to see if the breast would have stopped Lauren's or Georgia's reflux but bottle feeding didn't hurt any of them.

I have really enjoyed reading all the posts on breastfeeding this week.  I read alot of blogs & I noticed the ones I read the most Katie, Charlotte, Lauren, Jess & Bex all these moms are or did breastfeed their babies.

It got me thinking a bit though, & if I'm honest, if I was pregnant now after reading all these posts & knowing the support I would get from these wonderful ladies I would actually give breastfeeding a go.

Nail Varnish

Whenever I look at photographs one of the things I always look at is what the girls nails look like. I love nail varnish & how it looks but if there is one thing I am not good at its putting nail varnish on, especially on the left hand.

I have a tendancy to shake, more so when I'm nervous or if someone is watching me do something, its something I've had since I was young. I can't put liquid eyeliner on for this reason.  I know this probably happens to a lot of people when they stand in front of an audience but this happens to me all the time it just gets a lot worse when I feel under pressure & I really hate it when people point it out as this also makes it worse.  So trying to use my left hand to put nail varnish usually ends badly. The nail varnish ends up looking lumpy & then because I don't like that I just end up sitting & picking at it until its all come off.

Last week I went into the chemist & saw a bottle of nail varnish that I loved the colour of, so what did I do, I brought it.

I then had an idea, maybe if I did one nail at a time then it might work.

Below are my results.  Not bad I don't think, even if it did take me a few hours to do.  Please note my middle finger nail on my left hand doesn't grow, it starts to grow & then splits so I just keep it short otherwise its sore when I catch it on clothes etc.

I'm really pleased with my results, its the first time ever at the grand old age of 36 that I'm wearing nail varnish that I've put on myself & its stayed on.  I might even go back tomorrow & choose another colour in the Rimmel Pro range. Unless you can recommend another nail varnish thats good to use.

The same but not the same....

After reading a lovely post by Katie called Matching But Not Matching I thought I'd share my views on how I dress my twin boys which, is really exactly like Katie dresses her gorgeous girls.
As soon as I found out I was having twins I had said to the hubby, that they would never wear the same things. He just nodded, he never has any say in what clothes the children have in their wardrobes.
When I do dress them each day, if I choose a jumper, then they both wear jumpers but the jumpers will be different. If the t.shirts have a collar then they will both wear t.shirts with a collar but different colours so they are the same, but not the same.

If they want to wear the same things as each other when they are older that is fine by me but until they can decide I will carry on with my favourite pastime...shopping & making sure their wardrobes are the same but not the same.

A Little Bit Lately

You can see my first post here to find out more about it.

Reading
I am currently reading Miracle on Regent Street by Ali Harris. This is Ali's first novel. I have already read her second novel, The First Last Kiss which was soooo good.  When I finished the book, I missed the characters so much so I brought Miracle on Regent Street straight away.  I am only a few chapters in but so far so good.

Watching
Last year with about two episodes to go I started watching The Apprentice for the first time so this year I thought I'd give it a go.  Some of the contestants annoy me especially Kurt the guy from Liverpool, he constantly rolls his eyes! Grrr. My favourite at the moment is Alex & I hope he does well. I also enjoy it as its become me & Lolly (my eldest) time. The other kiddies are in bed & me & Lolly sit & watch together.

Listening to
The song I've been listening to most the last couple of weeks is Rod Stewart's She Makes Me Happy which is from his latest album Time.  I do like a bit of Rod & wished I had got tickets to see him when he plays in Brum later this month.

Loving
I have a handful of best friends, two of which are male & there is nothing I love more than getting together with them & catching up even though I text two of my friends everyday. Whether its meeting for food or meeting for a good drink I know I will be laughing lots.  I don't know what I would do without them.  They know who they are & I want them to know how much I love them.

Thinking About
How quickly my children are growing up.  I really can't believe that in September the boys will be two but what's more scary is that G will be nearly four.  I was only saying today I really don't remember her second year (the boys had just been born) & in September she starts nursery.  But then I have to start thinking about choosing a secondary school for L.  Eeekk! Where did my baby go?
